Joni Colburn - Owner / Program Director / Head Coach

Joni Colburn, Program DirectorJoni Colburn is a Certified N.E.S.T.A. (National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association) personal trainer as well as a Certified Adventure Boot Camp Instructor.  Joni moved to Hilton Head Island in March of 2008 from Southern California where she had the unique opportunity to train under the originator of Adventure Boot Camp, Dr. John Spencer Ellis and his qualified team of instructors. 

Joni has been an athlete and fitness enthusiast for over 25 years.  Raised in Southern California, Joni played numerous sports competitively, but excelled in basketball.  She earned a "full ride" scholarship to The University of Southern California where she started all four years, played all positions and received top-notch M.V.P. and All-American honors.  While at U.S.C., she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.  After graduation, Joni was offered a position to play professionally but instead decided to pursue her coaching career.  While coaching at the college level, Joni began Sky Camp, a summer basketball camp for kids, personally trained elite athletes, and taught numerous group fitness classes for women all while earning a Teaching Credential and Masters Degree in Physical Education. 

Through all her life experiences, Joni realized her true passion was not found just in the sport of basketball but in the process of helping others strive to be their best.  Joni has always had a love for people and wants to make a difference in the lives of those she meets.  She strives to empower people to believe in their potential and in their ability to reach their goals. She is a firm believer that fitness is for everyone and it's never too late to get started! 

As a former collegiate athlete, she understands the importance of keeping fit and living a healthy lifestyle.  As a busy mother of two young children, Joni shares the challenge many women face when trying to find the proper balance between diet, exercise and family.  She feels Adventure Boot Camp is a perfect solution!  She will offer guidance and encouragement and the formula to successfully attain a healthy and fit body that's effects will reach into all areas of your life.  She is thrilled to bring this unique and exciting fitness program to the ladies of Hilton Head.

John is on the Advisory Boards of the National Health, Wellness and Prevention Congress, Exercise TV, Conference for Healthy Living, Irvine Valley College, Get America Fit Foundation, and is a Fellow of the National Board of Fitness Examiners. He is the author of "How Badly Do You Want It? - Your Ultimate Guide to Optimal Fitness," and a contributor to "Power of Champions." He created Adventure Boot Camp, the largest fitness boot camp program in the world. His signature series of outdoor fitness equipment is used in communities worldwide. John has been featured or quoted in every major fitness publication, and held the post of Fitness Editor for OC Flair magazine. John has been featured on NBC, CBS, PBS, SPIKE, ESPN & Bravo. He serves as an on-air expert for Life & Leisure Television and Health Journal Television with General Norman Schwarzkopf. He is the producer and host of The OC Body on The Healthy Living Channel. John is a Nautilus sponsored athlete and stars in the workout DVDs Playground Boot Camp? & Kung-Fu Fitness?. John created the fitness program used by the U.S. Secret Service and he consults the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships).

John has been continuing his professional education since 1987, and holds bachelors degrees in business and health science, an MBA, and a doctorate in education. He is currently completing a second doctorate in naturopathy. He has fifteen certifications including massage therapy, plyometrics, self-defense, fitness kick boxing, fitness boxing, water fitness, exercise rehabilitation, golf conditioning, Pilates, personal training, clinical hypnotherapy, sports hypnosis, PACE circuit training and yoga. He holds a 2nd degree black belt in kung-fu, has completed the Ironman triathlon, and finished 5th at the U.S. National Biathlon Championships. His medical training includes a license in radiological technology, a medical assisting certification, and training in McKenzie rehabilitation. John was nominated for the California Community College Distinguished Alumni Award.
